Notes Client 6.0.1 Windows XP

Like Marco Kuiter in January, I've installed a Notes client on a PC (lets call it A) and am trying to retrieve mail from a POP3 server. I get a "POP3 Protocol Error" message when I try to retrieve the POP3 mail. Checking log.nsf I find entries saying "POP3Client: -ERR invalid password: POP3 Protocol Error Returned".

Now this is the strange part: I'm absolutely sure the POP3 client password is correct. Furthermore, the identical (as far as I can tell) POP3 account on a different Client PC (lets call it B) works with no problem.

In general I'm experiencing some frustration trying to configure these clients. It seems to take time for changes to kick in. For example, I tried using the wrong password for PC B and it kept working for a while before it finally stopped. I am also trying to get PC B (working again) to not leave messages on the server, but this change is not taking effect.

Anyone have any words of wisdom to offer on these points?
